Postmortem

Hey all! Creator here :)

First and foremost, thanks to all of you for playing this game, creating commentary and gameplay videos and also sharing your feedback! It's heartwarming to receive this kind of response ♥️

I genuinely never expected for this game to reach even 20 people - I uploaded it to Itch.io to store my creation somewhere, but now the game is played by ~400-500 people everyday which is surprising. Thanks to all of you again!!!

I want to share some backstory about this game. If you read the description, you could see that the game was an entry for a game jam called "Kajam" and the theme was "spicy". To be completely honest, I believe that if I had more time, the story could've been 10x times better than it currently is (excuse my perfectionism), as well as I'm bad at making stories :')

Additionally, this is my very first game that I released to the public. I have no prior professional game development experience either, so I wasn't sure how everything will go either.

Nevertheless, it's been fun to see what participating in a game jam feels like. Thanks Replit team!

I want to talk more about the process of creating a game. I chose Kaboom (https://kaboomjs.com) framework to build my game on, because I have JavaScript programming experience. I used this framework before (https://frogs.ghostwolf.repl.co/) and I felt like it was the best choice to go with. For visuals, I've used Photoshop (noise filter FTW) and for audio, I've used Audacity for some audio editing. However, it wouldn't be possible without Open Game Art's (https://opengameart.org) audio assets library, the people of this website are the real champs. My next task is to make sure to credit all assets that I've used in this game and I'm sorry for not doing this yet, I've learned a lesson to write down everything that I've used next time. For visuals, I've mashed public domain assets together and added the noise filter to each frame. Also yes, I worked on each frame separately (~250+ frames, iirc, as well additional reworks).

Some people also figured out the most important (in my opinion) thing in this game - where did the inspiration come from! The style of the game was inspired by Baphometkun (https://youtube.com/channel/UCEHdbTzwFS49Y84lRWQfCeg) and Andy Land (https://youtube.com/c/ANDYLANDCHANNEL) (a little bit). I want to say thank you to these creators for their incredible work. The "forest bed" scene was from Baphometkun's edit, by the way. I wanted to add this scene as a tribute to them and I also wanted to imagine what kind of full story could've been. Thank you.

While Itch.io version of the game doesn't have the end screen credits (because hey, it's my first game on itch, I still need to figure things out), I'll make sure to add all last bits that I want to add.

If you're reading this, thank you :) I've been smiling like a small child this whole week because I've never expected anything like this rollercoaster to happen. Thanks to my amazing girlfriend for keeping my sanity in check and overseeing me if I'm not distracted, thanks to my friends for testing the game and making important suggestions and thanks to all of you, players, for playing this game :D
